Honoring those who served: Dr. Wallen’s gift match raises more than $55,000

October 2026

For Dr. Jeffrey Wallen, supporting the OMS Foundation is a way to honor the legacy of service that has helped shape oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Recognizing the military roots of the specialty and America’s 250th anniversary, Dr. Wallen pledged a $25,000 matching gift challenge to the OMS Foundation. From July 1 through the 2026 AAOMS Annual Meeting, donations made to the campaign were matched dollar for dollar.

“Oral and maxillofacial surgery has a long and proud history of service to our country. This matching gift challenge is my way of honoring their contributions while investing in the future of our profession,” Dr. Wallen said.

The response was tremendous. Fifty-seven donors contributed a total of more than $30,000, unlocking Dr. Wallen’s full $25,000 match and helping to generate more than $55,000 in total support for the OMS Foundation. Many donors participated through the Give $250 for 250 Years of Independence campaign, turning a $250 gift into $500 through the match. Gifts were made in honor of OMS military service and the generations of OMSs who have served the United States.

Dr. Wallen’s generosity demonstrated how a gift match can inspire others to give. The donors who participated in this effort honored the service and sacrifice that helped build the OMS specialty while strengthening the Foundation’s ability to advance oral and maxillofacial surgery through research, education, leadership development and programs.

The OMS Foundation thanks Dr. Wallen and the 57 donors who answered his challenge. Their generosity is a powerful reminder of the collective strength of the OMS community.
