Clinical Research Support Grants
The OMS Foundation offers Clinical Research Support Grants of $150,000 (paid in two annual installments) to:
- Further the development of scientific investigators committed to addressing clinical problems related to oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Foster inter-professional research collaborations that facilitate advances in clinical research
- Encourage promising lines of patient-oriented and outcomes-oriented research consistent with the research priorities established by the specialty

Guidelines
- Further the development of scientific investigators who are committed to clinical problems related to oral and maxillofacial surgery.
- Foster inter-professional research collaborations that facilitate advances in clinical research.
- Encourage promising lines of patient-oriented and outcomes-oriented research consistent with the research priorities established by the specialty.
- Applicant must have obtained a doctoral degree.
- Applicant oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMS) must have completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery training program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association (CODA).
- If the Principal Investigator (PI) is not an OMS, there must be qualified OMS as Co-PI and the relationship of the PI to the specialty must be specifically stated. The Co-PI must have an active role in the project with time commitment of the Co-PI contributing a minimum of 10% effort with time commitments stated in objective terms.
- The OMS who is the PI or Co-PI, as the case may be, must be a fellow or member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and must be a donor of the OMS Foundation.
- Either the applicant and/or the OMS Co-PI must be a citizen or non-citizen national of the United States and Canada or its possessions and territories or must, at least one year prior to signing the application for the Research Support Grant, have been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
- The maximum disbursement to the grant will be $150,000. The grant will be disbursed in two annual installments.
- This grant will be offered on a biannual basis.
- The grants are offered for periods of 24 months. Grants are not renewable but additional funding can be requested through resubmission with justification which would undergo the standard review.
- Any unused funds will be returned to the OMS Foundation with a budget indicating how the balance of the grant funds were utilitzed.
- The grant funds are to be used for direct support of the proposed reserach. Salary support (inlcuding fringe) for investigators and other personnel may not exceed 50% of the total budget. Indirect overhead costs will not be supported by the OMS Foundation.

- Attachments must be uploaded only in the formats specificed in the application.
- A link to the most current NIH biosketch will be provided in the body of the application. Only the most current NIH biosketch format will be accpeted.
- Conformity to the prescribed format will be taken into account in the review process. Copies of applications that have been previously submitted to other funding sources on other formats will not be considered.
- The Director and/or Chief of the unit (e.g., department, service, laboratory) at the institution from which the application is submitted must endorse the proposal in writing stating the support of the unit and the institution for the proposed work.
- Applications that do not adhere to the guidelines will not be reviewed.
- The OMS Foundation research grants are awarded entirely on the basis of merit after a rigorous review by the Committee on Research.
- The OMS Foundation Board of Directors will, at its sole discretion, select the Clinical Research Support Grant awardees from recommendations provided by the Committee on Research.
- All eligible applications will be reviewed against previously established criteria determined by the Committee on Research and endorsed by the OMS Foundation Board of Directors.
- The application will be evaluated on the basis of:
i. Significance to the specialty
