OMS Foundation Awards Every Year, the OMS Foundation awards individuals who display the very best in talent, leadership, and service to the OMS specialty and to our community at large.
List of Awards
Purpose
• Recognition of the annual highest scoring research grant submitted to the OMSF.
Criteria
• Individual research proposal that receives a high score at each years grant review conducted by the OMSF Committee on Research.
Eligibility
• Any individual who submits a research grant and meets all the qualifications and receives the highest score.
Award Description
• The award is given annually.
Compensation
• None
Method of Selection
• The OMSF Committee on Research selected the highest score grant application and make recommendations to the OMSF Board of Directors.
Purpose
• To emphasize the commitment of the OMS Foundation to foster programs of research and scientific investigations related to oral and maxillofacial surgery.
• To recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the specialty through their participation in and support of research within the specialty.
Criteria
• Significance and impact of scientific achievement toward a better understanding of basic disease processes and improvement of care related to disorders of the oral and maxillofacial region.
• Originality and quality of scientific accomplishments, including assessment by experts in the nominee’s area of work.
• The influence that the individual and/or his contributions have had on the secondary scientific careers or contributions of students, residents, or other colleagues.
Eligibility
• Any individual who meets the criteria and has not previously received the award.
Award Description
• The award shall consist of a crystal engraved with the award name, year given, and honoree name and academic titles.
• The award is given only when deemed appropriate.
• The award, when given, is presented at the AAOMS Annual Meeting Opening Ceremonies.

Method of Selection
• The OMSF Committee on Research will consider applications and make recommendations to the OMSF Board of Directors.
Purpose
• The Dr. David Stanton Resident Research Award is given to an OMS resident whose excellence as a researcher during their training years is distinguished by a publication in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Criteria
• OMS resident must contribute in a tangible way toward formulating the research question, designing the study, performing the analysis, and articulating the clinical importance or significance of the outcomes.
Eligibility
• OMS resident qualified resident research manuscript published in the JOMS.
• Qualifying papers must be submitted by the end of June of the candidates final year of residency, although the award may be received following completion of the residency program.
Award Description
• The award consists of a certificate housed in a high-quality certificate jacket.
• Each author involved in the publication receives a certificate.
• The award is given annually.
• The award is presented at the AAOMS Annual Meeting Opening Ceremonies.
Compensation
• A monetary award of $500 from the OMS Foundation is provided to the author of the manuscript.
• Complimentary registration for the AAOMS Annual Meeting.
• $1,000 for travel expenses for the AAOMS Annual Meeting.
Method of Selection
• Each calendar year, the JOMS Section Editors will select from among the qualified resident-author publications to choose the paper that will receive the award.
Purpose
• Recognition is given to an outstanding donor who has gone above and beyond to advocate on behalf of the Foundation.
Criteria
• Individual donor who has demonstrated extraordinary stewardship on behalf of the OMS Foundation.
Eligibility
• Any individual who meets the criteria and has not previously received the award.
Award Description
• The award shall consist of a crystal engraved with the award name, year given, and honoree name and academic titles.
• The award is given only when deemed appropriate.
• The award, when given, is presented at the AAOMS Annual Meeting Opening Ceremonies.

• The OMSF Nomination Committee will consider applications and make recommendations to the OMSF Board of Directors.
Purpose
• This is the highest, most prestigious award bestowed by the OMS Foundation in recognition of distinguished contributions to the OMS Foundation and superior achievements in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Criteria
• An individual or organization that has provided exemplary service and made major contributions in fostering the purposes of the OMS Foundation.
• Proven, longstanding record of superior commitment to the OMS Foundation and the specialty.
• Highly effective and influential stewardship of the OMS Foundation, including past or current board and/or committee service.
