The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation Alliance was created in 1993 to involve spouses, friends and allied staff of AAOMS fellows and members. It is dedicated to supporting current health and social issues related to the family, community and the specialty.
The Alliance plays a major role in the AAOMS Annual Meeting by supporting a variety of events and activities for significant others, friends and allied staff of oral and maxillofacial surgeons. During the week Alliance members participate daily in the health walk, and several times a week in hospitality suites and estate planning seminars. The annual Alliance Annual Event held at the AAOMS Annual Meeting raises necessary funds used to support the specialty. This is a unique and exciting event that promises a rich and rewarding afternoon. Alliance events have included cooking demonstrations, fashion shows and visiting unique tourist sites.
In addition to activities and events at the Annual Meeting, the Alliance has truly supported the oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty. Below are some significant contributions the Alliance has made:
- 2009: $5,000 unrestricted gift to OMSF in celebration of OMSF's 50th Anniversary.
- 2008: Sponsored a Student Research Training Award awarded by OMSF in the amount of $12,500 to Massachusetts General Hospital.
- 2008: Sponsored three Resident Spouse Scholarships to the 2008 AAOMS Annual Meeting.
- 2007: Purchased $32,000 worth of donor software and training for OMSF, to facilitate OMSF's effective communication by maintaining an up-to-date database.
- 2006: $15,000 unrestricted gift to the Foundation to support research and education.
- 2005: $10,000 to OMSF for research, as well an additional $5,000 for the REAP program.
- 2004: $5,000 for the continuation of the groundbreaking Third Molar Study.
